In June 2011, CBI organised a CSR workshop in Delhi with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), an association of business organisations in India. The aim of this workshop was to coach 20 Indian consultants on the ins-and-outs of CSR consulting, so that they’d be able to provide CSR consultancy services to Indian companies.
During the workshop, the participants were trained on how to implement CSR at companies – from identifying the business case for a company, to performing a baseline assessment and developing a CSR action plan.
Following the workshop, nine Indian companies, which supply Dutch companies, were chosen to participate in a CSR programme. Teams of two consultants are guiding these companies in their efforts to align their CSR activities with European standards, while CBI and two Indian experts are giving feedback to the consultants throughout the process. Everybody has benefited from this approach so far – the Indian companies will receive a CSR plan, the consultants are learning how to provide high quality CSR consultancy services and the Dutch customers will be able to source from suppliers with fewer CSR related risks.
CBI’s CSR capacity building project is still ongoing and further results will be published in the 2012 annual Report.
In a project initiated with the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation, consultants were trained by CBI to guide Indian suppliers to implement CSR into their business plans. The intervention was a true eye opener for the suppliers and gave immediate benefits to European buyers.

CSR - Reporting and disclosure
By disclosing social, environmental and governance information, enterprises often find that they can better identify and manage issues that influence their business success.
Good disclosure of non-financial information enables investors to contribute to a more efficient allocation of capital and better achieve longer-term investment goals.
It can also help to make enterprises more accountable and contribute to higher levels of citizen trust in business.
